Welcome To kilimanjaro Rescue

Kilimanjaro Rescue represents the crucial emergency procedures designed to swiftly respond and evacuate climbers who face health crises or other emergencies while ascending Mount Kilimanjaro.

At Galago Expeditions, we prioritize your safety and enjoyment while you scale the majestic peak. As part of our commitment, we've integrated emergency protocols within our climbing packages and ensure that every climber is registered with the Kilimanjaro Search and Rescue Services (Kilimanjaro SAR).

In the following content, we will delve into the intricate aspects of Kilimanjaro Rescue, discuss the significance of helicopter rescues, and highlight the importance of insurance coverage for Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing.

Helicopter Rescue Services

With the mission of making Kilimanjaro Africa's safest tourist destination, search, and rescue companies operate high-altitude helicopters crewed by trained medical personnel. These helicopters, based in Moshi, can reach climbers in need swiftly.

However, mountain weather can sometimes prevent helicopters from landing. If that happens, manual evacuation with stretchers provided by the National Park is the alternate solution.

Altitude Sickness:

An Unseen Risk

Climbers must be aware of altitude sickness risks. For this, we offer a comprehensive guide detailing:

  • Symptoms of altitude sickness
  • Necessary precautions to prevent it
  • Steps to take if symptoms occur

Your safety is our number one priority, and we aim to provide you with all the information needed to prevent and deal with altitude sickness.

Understanding Helicopter Evacuation On Kilimanjaro

Although helicopter rescues are relatively new, they have drastically improved the safety of Kilimanjaro. However, not all parts of the mountain are suitable for helicopter landings.

The highest helicopter landing point is currently at the Kosovo Hut, situated at 4,900 meters. Climbers unable to reach these landing areas can be carried by stretcher.

Safety Measures And Protocols

While the existence of a helicopter rescue service reassures climbers, it does not mean safety protocols should be overlooked. Helicopter rescues are a last resort, not a safety guarantee. Climbers should still take necessary precautions to stay safe.

Our daily safety protocols include :
  • Using a pulse oximeter to measure your oxygen saturation and heart rate
  • Applying the Lake Louise Scoring System to monitor your adaptation to the thin air
  • Carrying supplementary oxygen on every climb, strictly for emergencies

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing is a thrilling experience, but it's crucial to take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety. By providing a professional Kilimanjaro Rescue service and enforcing strict safety protocols, we aim to make your adventure both safe and unforgettable. Trust in our commitment to your well-being as you embark on this adventure of a lifetime.
